How To Leave Your Shower Tiles Spotless Without Scrubbing

Scrubbing your shower is not always necessary, even less when your tiles aren’t that dirty. However, it is not as simple as just wiping off the grime. Follow these steps to leave your shower tiles spotless without scrubbing.

Step #1. Turn on the hot water

Weakening the stains as much as possible is essential to clean your tiles without scrubbing. To achieve it, let hot water run until your bathroom is filled with steam. The heat and moisture will soften the grime on your tiles.

Step #2. Prepare a cleaning solution

There’s no need for fancy cleaners to tackle the job, as you’ll only need to fill a spray bottle with vinegar for most tiles. Easy as that. However, if you have vinyl tiles, you’ll need to dilute the vinegar in a 50/50 mix with warm water, as the acid in the vinegar could be too much for vinyl.

For natural stone tiles, you’ll need to make a mixture by filling a spray bottle with hydrogen peroxide, three tablespoons of baking soda, and a trickle of dish soap. Vinegar is off the table as it can erode and damage the surface of natural stone.

Step #3. Clean your shower tiles

If you use a vinegar-based solution, spray a generous amount over the tiles, focusing on the grimiest spots. Let it sit for 15 minutes while the acid dissolves the grime.

As the DIY solution for natural stone tiles is less potent than vinegar, you’ll need a little extra. Instead of spraying the solution directly, wet a clean cloth in the mix and wipe the surface applying a little pressure. Be sure to leave the surface wet enough, so it doesn’t dry before 15 minutes.

When time’s up, grab a warm damp cloth and wipe the dirt off the tiles. Repeat the process if you still notice stains after wiping, only focusing on the stubborn areas.

Extra tip: You can also clean glass shower doors with any of the previous homemade cleaners.

Step #4. Rinse and dry thoroughly

All the cleaners mentioned up to this point are safe. However, the solutions could damage the tiles if they stay too long. It sounds more serious than it is, as you only need to rinse the area thoroughly with clean water to prevent it.

Finally, avoid white spots by completely drying your tiles using a clean cloth.

Extra step: how to clean grimy grout in corners

Filthy shower corners can be such a pain to clean due to their location and how dirty they get. Follow these methods to avoid spending the next hour trying to leave them spotless.

Warning: Wait until you finish cleaning your tiles and rinse thoroughly before cleaning the corners with bleach. Vinegar and bleach create chlorine gas which is dangerous for your health.

  • For ceramic tiles: Put on your latex gloves, crunch some toilet paper, and wet it with bleach (just enough so it doesn’t disintegrate). Then, place it along all the grimy corners and wait ten minutes.

Once ready, remove the paper by dragging it along the corners (use a little elbow grease as you go).

  • For natural stone or vinyl tiles: Make a paste by mixing two cups of hydrogen peroxide and a few tablespoons of baking soda. Play with quantities until reaching toothpaste consistency. Then, spread a thin layer over the dirty corners.

After ten minutes, use a clean, dampened cloth to wipe the paste, applying pressure until finishing.
