A dusty home is not good for anyone, especially if you suffer from allergies. Since dust is very persistent, eliminating it can be tricky. However, as challenging as it can be, it’s not impossible.
Check out these tips to keep the dust at bay.
Tip #1. Place a mat at your front door
A well-known and straightforward way to get rid of dust entering your home is by using a mat. A sturdy doormat might trap dirt better, but you can also prioritize the design to add a welcoming touch to your house.
Note: If you’re willing to go further to keep your home free of dust, you can leave your shoes at the door.
Tip #2. Close the windows
Keeping the windows and doors closed in unoccupied rooms will go a long way to reducing the dust that gets in.
You don’t have to keep everything closed all the time either to prevent your home from feeling stuffy. Doing this only when it’s windy outside will also help!
Tip #3. Groom your pets
If you have pets, you know how much dirt they can carry around on their fur and pawns, but it’s not the only way they contribute to making your house dusty. Dogs and cats shed a lot of hair and dander, and (you guessed it) all of it ends up making more dust.
You might not be able to stop your furry pal from shedding, but you can accelerate and control where it happens by grooming them. When you brush your pets, do it outside to keep the dust and dirt out as well.
Tip #4. Change your beddings
Believe it or not, your own dead skin particles make your home dusty. Besides, dust mites feed on dead skin cells and end up adding to the indoor dust.
Since you spend many hours on your bed, that’s where most dead skin and dust mites accumulate, so you should change your bedding at least once a week to avoid the buildup.
Tip #5. Keep air filtering systems in top shape
Did you know that the air filters of the AC need to be changed monthly? The air filters gather dust as time passes. So, to avoid blowing dust everywhere when you turn on the air conditioner, you should regularly change your air filters.
If you are willing to invest in fancy devices to keep indoor air the cleanest possible, you can get an air purifier or a humidifier. Air purifiers are a bit expensive, but these are devices specifically designed to remove dust (and other harmful particles and germs) from your indoor air.
Tip #6. Dust your house regularly
Dust is unlikely to be stopped entirely from coming into your home. So, even if you manage to keep most of it outside, you still need to dust regularly.
The best way to dust your house is to go from top to bottom, ending the session with a thorough vacuum cleaning. However, if you don’t have the time for that, you can wipe a few surfaces each day with a quality microfiber cloth or a damp rag—these tools capture the dirt instead of just pushing dust particles into the air.
